Some students need support to increase the academic skills needed to succeed in life.  The Cle Elum-Roslyn School District has opportunities in place designed to increase student achievement.  The Title I/Learning Assistance program is an opportunity for students to receive targeted assistance in the areas of math or literacy if they fall below grade expectations.  Title I uses federal funds to provide remediation services and LAP (Learning Assistance Program) uses state funds for those students who are identified as not meeting proficiency at grade level.  Parents also play a role in this assistance program.

After testing data has been compiled and disseminated, parents are notified if their son/daughter has qualified by mail.  Two notices will be sent out.  If there is no response, a “no objections” will be marked, and the student will remain in the program.  A Student Learning Plan will also be created for each student, identifying areas for the teacher, student, and parent to focus on.  Progress on this plan will be sent home each Trimester.  Parents may request that their son/daughter be removed from the program at any time.

Explanations are provided to parents on the district’s website, and during parent open house night.  Further information is provided during the Title I Annual parent meeting in the spring.  Additional meetings may be called, as needed, and additional information may be provided during other school activities/programs.  Any parent/guardian may request a meeting with the principal, teacher, or other support staff.  This meeting will be granted, within a reasonable amount of time.

Throughout the year, parents are provided information about the Title I, Part A Program on the school districts website and/or in school newsletters.  Staff will be notified of changes in the program by the principal and/or Title I Coordinator.

The middle school’s program minimizes students’ pull-out time from core class time.  Students who qualify will not automatically be given an additional class, but they will be identified to receive additional services, which may include: computer assisted instruction, specific skill instruction, in class interventions, diagnostic testing, progress monitoring, etc.

This year, 2007-2008, students in the middle school who were identified to receive services in math, were not pulled out of any in class.  Students were served in 6th, 7th, & 8th grade math.  They were given the opportunity to work on an individualized computer assisted program, called ALEKS.  The ALEKS program is used within the math class and can be accessed from home.  The math teacher will have further information about the way this program is being utilized in class.

Qualifications are based on recent WASL scores and a building assessment, called Ed Performance.  Teachers have access to both of these scores, if you would like further information.

If you feel your child was identified in error or you have a question about the identification process, please contact the Title I Coordinator, Pearl McKenzie,  or 649-4739.

Parents have had the opportunity to create, respond to, and modify this plan.  Any parent or staff may request to have a change made to this plan, with approval by the principal and school coordinator.
