We believe that all students have the ability to succeed in life and school.  People learn at different rates throughout life and some students need more strategies, time, and avenues toward learning.  The Cle Elum-Roslyn School District has opportunities in place designed to increase student achievement.  The Title I/Learning Assistance program is an opportunity for students to receive targeted assistance in the areas of math or literacy if they fall below grade expectations.  Parents also play a role in this assistance program.

After testing data has been compiled and disseminated, parents are notified if their son/daughter has qualified.  Two notices will be sent home with students.  If there is no response, a “no objections” will be marked, and the student will remain in the program.  A Student Learning Plan will also be created for each student, identifying areas for the teacher, student, and parent to focus on.  Progress on this plan will be sent home each Trimester.  Parents may request that their son/daughter be removed from the program at any time.  Students will graduate once they have reached the grade level expectations.

Explanations are provided on the district’s website, and during parent open house night.  Further information is provided during the Title I Annual parent meeting in the spring.  Additional meetings may be called, as needed and additional information may be provided during other school activities/programs.  Any parent/guardian may request a meeting with the principal, teacher, or other support staff.  This meeting will be granted, within a reasonable amount of time.

Students in the Title I/Learning Assistance Program will not be pulled out of their classroom during core reading/language arts time, but will receive extra assistance during another part of the day.  This year, students in grades K, 1, &3 will receive additional assistance in their reading class during core reading time.

In 5th grade, students may receive assistance in math and/or reading.  Reading support will be offered to 5th graders who qualify, in the Read Naturally computer lab.  Math will be offered as an additional support to work on basic math skills needed in 5th grade.

All parents will receive a copy online or sent home by the classroom teacher, of the latest “Home and School Connection” provided by the Title I & LAP program.  It has the latest research on parent involvement, tips for parents to help their son/daughter, and a question/answer section.  You can find a link for the most recent “Home and School Connection” on the districts website.

Qualifications are based on recent WASL scores (4-5) and a building assessment (K&1 DIBELS tests, 2 DRA, and 3-5 ARI).  Teachers have access to student scores.  Please ask them if you have more questions.

If you feel your child was identified in error or you have a question about the identification process, please contact the Title I Coordinator,  or 649-4739.

Each child is influenced by the culture around them, including his/her family’s involvement in school.  All parents/guardians can choose to be involved in the planning, review, and improvement of Title I programs.  They also have the opportunity to create, respond to, and modify this plan.  Any parent or staff may request to have a change made to this plan, with approval by the principal and school coordinator.

Let’s work together as a school and family community to support, inspire, and create learning opportunities for all of our students.
